Benjamin Voce is an emerging conductor with a strong affinity for modern and 20th-century repertoire, noted for clarity of interpretation and precision with complex scores. Recent debuts include with the BBC Philharmonic, Orchestra della Toscana and the Galicia Royal Philharmonic. In the 25/26 season he joined the music staff at Glyndebourne for Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and was assistant to Thomas Adès at the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Hallé and Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
Benjamin thrives in music of the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly composers such as Adès, Britten and Stravinsky. He has been working with Thomas Adès as his assistant conductor since 2023, with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic. He feels strongly connected to modern British repertoire through his mother, who is a contemporary music soprano who premiered over 200 works.
Benjamin first graduated with a degree in mathematics and this continues to play an important role in his approach to conducting. He then studied music at Daniel Barenboim’s academy in Berlin, including studies in viola, piano, conducting, musicology, literature and philosophy. In his performances, he seeks to embody the long inter-connected history of music and mathematics. He completed his masters in conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music with Mark Heron and Clark Rundell, as well as receiving guidance from teachers such as Sir Mark Elder, Johannes Schlaefli, Ed Gardner, Anthony Hermus and Nicolás Pasquet.
